Are you a User?
In the early 90s I did one of my first school internships. It was at a one man IT company near my home.
We did soldering electronics, networks, programming, everything IT related. One day he asked me what path I want to take later, hardware or software?
Back then those were the two paths in IT. Otherwise you weren’t in IT. Either you worked on hardware, or you worked on software.
Everything else was just USING IT and had little to nothing to do with IT actually.
See the difference?
He didn’t ask, do you want to USE Windows or MacOS? He didn’t ask do you want to USE Excel or Word?
It remained like that.
Nvidia? They picked hardware.
Mark Zuckerberg? He picked software.
Go through everybody and every company you could think of in IT, it’s always the same. There’s nobody who just ‘used’ something.
That’s why so many struggle. They haven’t chosen a path, they are just users.
Btw… back then, the word ‘user’ was meant negative 😂
